It’s Official: Playing Video Games Reduces Stress Both at Home and at Work  | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it

chase naugle's curator insight, March 14, 2018 3:39 PM

A new study from the U.K. may prove that playing video games can both reduce stress at home and at work. It actually found that playing video games helps young people better cope with stress and life. Video games help in many ways. For some it helps them with problem solving, others it helps them meet friends, something they couldn't do outside of gaming. Video games is looked down upon by parents and lawmakers, but truly they have a good intention to the public.

As a fellow gamer I agree that video games do help with life. After a longs day work or a long day at school, sitting down and enjoying yourself while playing video games make you feel good because you can just relax and not worry about messing up or being wrong because you can't be when playing video games, they are for fun. It's a fun form of entertainment. For some its an escape from the real world. Video games aren't a problem for people. They are a solution to many problem.

Dominick Runyon's curator insight, March 18, 2018 5:45 PM

A United Kingdom study of 1,000 gamers between the ages of 18 and 30 was published that gives the subjects insights on why they play games. Roughly 55% stated that playing games allowed them to relieve stress, others said that they felt an increase in their confidence levels. 1 in 5 of the gamers reported a boost in problem solving skills. Some of the gamers also said it had positive impacts on their real lives, 3 out of the 5 gamers said they play so they can join friends and nearly 25% of them said they made more friends gaming than in other activities.

I believe gaming has a wide variety of positive impacts but a large impact is the stress relief. Gaming allows a player to escape from the real world for a period of time and not have to worry about the problems they face. It also helps boost social skills due to the growing popularity of online multiplayer, allowing people to play online with thousands of other gamers world wide and even communicate with them. I play games on a normal basis, and I agree that it helps to reduce stress and believe that gaming provides a larger amount of friends due to the fact hat everyone you play with has either identical or similar interests.

AI is about to Drastically Change | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it
A new theory pushes people to "think outside the brain" when it comes to AI.

Via TechinBiz
rodrick rajive lal's insight:
The term Artificial Intelligence or AI is an oxymoron for the basic fact that Intelligence can never be artificial or natural! To label Intelligence as Artificial raises doubts about the very nature of Intelligence. Would it be right, therefore to compare Machine Intelligence with Brain Intelligence?

3 dark trends that could Destroy the Web - Tim Berners-Lee | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it
Today marks 28 years since I submitted my original proposal for the world wide web.

Via TechinBiz
rodrick rajive lal's insight:
Tim Berners Lee has mentioned the three most pertinent and evident downsides of the internet today. These weaknesses might destroy the web, or maybe even us! Today we feel more vulnerable than our parents because "We have lost control over our personal data"! To make matters worse, "it is so easy too easy for misinformation to spread" take for example how misinformation can foment communalism. The third weakness pertains to how "political advertising needs transparency". The recent leakage of UID card details could have had a worse impact if the owners of those cards had been younger working people with a sound bank balance!

rodrick rajive lal's insight:
With increasing vulnerabilty brought in by the excessive use of digital technology, it surprises me as to how we can really depend on e-currency or digital forms for cash transactions as a replacement for actual cash. The recent hacking of an NSG website and the pilfering of millions of dollars per day from major US advertisers and publishing brands is proof enough that  digital transactions by individuals are more risky and dangerous if not as dangerous as actual cash transactions. It seem clear that we have not yet developed firewalls that are robust enough to repel would be hackers!

Access Denied: What DDoS Attacks Are All About and How They Vary | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it
DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) Attacks come in a number of different flavours, they weaponize data and can inflict severe financial harm

Via TechinBiz
rodrick rajive lal's insight:
DDoS or Distributed Denial of Service is the Liver Cirrhosis of the Internet according to this article! It is caused by deliberated slowing down of traffic on the internet by botnets or programmes that send too many requests to your blog. Sometime back there was a case where thousands of internet-enabled devices shot off instructions on the internet simultaneously, thus slowing it down. One wonders if shifting completely to digitisation or digital payments would be a good idea! Is it a good idea to do away with paper cheques and instead go for digital cheques? What would happen if you wanted to sell your stock before stock prices fell and then you became a victim of DDos? The age of the IOT has left us open to numerous vulnerabilities for which we do not have enough protection.

How the Internet and our Brains are more alike than we think

Via TechinBiz
rodrick rajive lal's insight:
The internet and the human brain are related to each other. Both of these ORGANS work on the basis of connections. The brain has a lot of neurons and the more connections that the neurons make the better the capacity of the brain. The same is true about the internet. The internet works on connections. There are nodes and servers. Both of these organs are information processors. The human brain is a smaller version of the internet!

I guess, after all, those people who talked about the left hemisphere of the brain being more for languages were correct after all! However, these wirings can be changed through training and practice!
