The Effects of Social Media on Our Body and Brain

The Effects of Social Media on Our Body and Brain | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it

We always talk about how social media can affect your brand, your reputation your social life. What we don’t discuss is the effect it has on our body and brain. What sorts ofchemical reactions happen each time we check our Twitter? How does our brain work now that internet is everywhere?

We all have seen the symptoms in ourselves. In fact, we can’t spend more than 10 minutes without checking our email or messages. But, apparently, there is a study which confirms that there are huge  psychopathological impacts that social media have brought to our lives. The results are impressive and you can find them below, in the infographic conceived and created by the team at TollFreeForwarding...

rodrick rajive lal's insight:

This is absolutely terrifying, an attention span of 8 minutes? Goldfish can do better - 9 minutes! It is certainly amzing how social media has begun to affect us mentally as well as physically! Do you get irritated whien your partner  talks to you for a longe period of time? Does it feel as if you are forgetting something? Do you feel breathlesss, restless and somehow rushing things up so that you can check out your FB or Twitter updates? Do you take out your mobile during board meetings to check on updates on social sites? If you are doing all this, then you are certainly addicted to the internet and you need to go for counselling and de-addiction! But then this is not just about how we are affected mentally, it is also about that pain you have in your back, and that occasional stiff neck. What about that nagging ache you have been experiencing lately? Do I need to go on? Haven't we all felt the side effects of excess surfing on the net? Don't we know all this? But then we really like being addicted to something that makes us feel good, so what if we have become somewhat narcicist, so what, don't we deserve to pamper ourselves?

This is your brain on social media!

Caitlin Mazurkevich's curator insight, September 22, 2014 5:43 PM

Social Media is more than just a way to stay connected to others or to pass time. These days it is more than anything like a drug to its users. Through constant notifications and updates, these social media sites are conditioning its users to rely on them for pleasure and validation. When people are saying it is harder to quit social media than it is smoking, you know there is a real issue here.

We are devoting more and more of our time per day to these sites, which is having a negative effect on our brain. It impairs one's ability to properly read and write, worsens recall memory and even fuels narcissism in its users. Consistent social media users get accustomed to auto-correct that they lose their ability to know how to spell words or use proper grammar. The narcissism comes from its users posting and sharing mostly about themselves and what they are thinking, doing, etc.

I believe social media is a great tool, especially for businesses to promote themselves. However, with all the personal noise from its users, it could be a tough road to navigate without having a game plan.

These are some interesting infographics that provide a pictorial representation of data in a form that can be easily understood. In an age where the quantum of data is increasing exponentially, it has become extremely important to use infographics. Raw data and statistics can become a turn off, especially for those who don't have an eye for figures! Infographics are being used very successfully in schools and colleges to present information in an easily assimilable form.

The quantum of information that is being exchanged on the internet is absolutely mind-boggling! I wonder how much information the individual human mind can process. Soon, even the human mind will have to concede defeat with respect to its ability to process all this information. Does it mark the end of one era and the start of another?

So what does this mean for an affiliate marketer?  Do you realize just how much potential for exposure this represents?  Look at all the events transpiring in 'a moment's time'.....awesome, isn't it?

This is also an excellent example showing how very important it is to build a targeted list for your particular niche of choice (or several areas if you are so inclined).  Each area must be treated as a unique entity to allow proper attention.

Affiliate marketing is a vast 'realm'; with tools such as those found on my website http://affiliatemarkethelp.com, you can make sure you are doing your utmost to claim and cultivate your "stakehold'.
