The 10 Laws of Visual Content Marketing - Updated  | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it
When we published the new laws of visual content in March 2015, brands were just waking up to the power of visual content. Unfortunately, far too many good brands were getting it wrong. Does Branded Content Really Work?

Does Branded Content Really Work? | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it

Polar tested different ad formats including image-based content (graphics, image galleries, and slide shows), article-based content, and video-based content. It tested more than 30 pieces of content, with each type tested by a minimum of 1,000 people  via desktop, mobile, and both.

Among the findings of the study, conducted in March 2017:

--Consumer awareness of a brand increased to 69% after engaging with branded content, while purchase intent was 51%. The study also used a control group with no branding.

--Incorporating companion display ads next to branded content improved purchase intent by 17% and didn’t have a negative impact on brand perception

--Imagery (infographics, image galleries, and slide shows) performed the best among content formats. And notably, video isn’t always needed to tell the story. However, imagery outperformed articles by 11%.

"We found that consumers responded a bit more favorably when there was less obvious branding,” Bella said....

Content is and Always Will Be King

I’ve heard people talk about content now being king anymore, especially on those social media platforms we all use, however in my opinion content and by that I mean

rodrick rajive lal's insight:
Content will always be King, thus having highly skilled content writers will always be an advantage for most brand marketers. In many cases, it is the quality of the content that will attract prospective clients and customers. The product in such a case might be as diverse as an insurance policy, a startup business plan, or perhaps even a holiday plan.

A Visual Guide to Telling Compelling Stories for Your Brand [Infographic]

A Visual Guide to Telling Compelling Stories for Your Brand [Infographic] | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it

Great storytelling is a great differentiator.

Imagine you're walking down the snack aisle at a grocery store. How do you make sense of the hundreds of choices on either side of you? What's going to be on your mind when you decide what to buy? Perhaps you choose one product over another because that company donates a percentage of their proceeds to a great cause. Or maybe you choose it because it has more protein -- and you were just reading this article about how protein helps boost concentration, and you've been having trouble concentrating at work recently.

People like making decisions quickly, and it'll be easier for them to choose your stuff if your message resonates with them. After all, content helps people travel through the inbound marketing methodology so that, someday, they might buy something from your company and spread your company's story with others.

But, as you may have noticed, a lot of people are trying to tell stories these days. How are you going to set yours part from the pack? And where on earth do you begin creating compelling stories for your brand?...

Via Jeff Domansky
rodrick rajive lal's insight:

A useful article which speaks volumes about the importance of developing the story telling culture. This is not just about entrepreneurs and business heads but also about educators and facilitators. The storytelling culture can make learning more experiential, it caters to congintive learning, that is social congintive learning. While no doubt the article is for corporates and business houses, I feel it has a lot of relevance in the field of education, both at school and in college. Think for example, how many more people would like to go through the story of your research on values rather than a dry statistical analysis of how values matter!

5 Signs Apple’s Era Of Dominance Is Over

5 Signs Apple’s Era Of Dominance Is Over | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it

...Media were no less giddy when it came to Apple’s media announcements – declaring intentions to live tweet these announcements and coveting their invitations to attend the media briefings in person as if they were non-transferable invitations to a royal wedding. Yet today’s Apple announcements are the latest example that this passion for the brand is slowing eroding – and along with it may go their biggest strategic advantage as well.

Let me explain. Apple, perhaps more than any other consumer brand, has always relied on evangelism from early consumers to propel its success. The loyal Apple devotees rave about the new device, and bring new consumers to it despite the significantly higher price tag than competitors. This raving led to their market share growth, ability to charge a premium for less and penchant for dictating unfavorable terms to strongarm partners such as mobile carriers into desperate exclusive partnerships to sell their products.

The big announcement of the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch today signifies that this era may be over for five reasons...

I guess this article is a reflection of what is taking place all over the world in some instances, globalization and collaboration have resulted in the passing away of Brand Dominance!   So, it is also about the end of Operating systems that come with expensive single user licences, thus you have open market solutions like Linux, and the Android operating systems. These are open operating systems and are in most cases free. Is that why Android based phones are edging over those phones which have proprietory Operating systems?

Why Case Studies Are Great Marketing Tools

Why Case Studies Are Great Marketing Tools | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it
Unlike more sales-oriented strategies, content marketing is a great way to educate existing and future customers about your industry in relevant ways. While eBooks and guides are useful long-form content marketing types, case studies are unique in the way they combine storytelling with providing information relevant to your business.

Case studies, project stories, and research narratives are great tools for marketing! However, we should not limit these tools to marketing. In fact, case studies, project stories and research narratives are very powerful and compelling tools in teaching. The moment you introduce narrative or story telling into your marketing pitch, or your topic for teaching, you kind of, grab the attention of wandering minds!

How Media Consumption Habits Are Changing

How Media Consumption Habits Are Changing | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it

Millennials age 14-25 now spend more time streaming online video content than watching live television, according to a recent report from Deloitte. The report was based on data conducted in November 2015 of 2,205 consumers in the United States.

The researchers examined the media consumption habits of four generations: Millennials (born between 1983 and 2001); Generation X (1966-1982); Baby Boomers (1947-1965), and Matures (prior to 1947). More than half of all US consumers, and three-quarters of Millennials, watch movies and TV shows via streaming on at least a monthly basis, the researchers found.

Other key insights from the report:

- 70% Americans binge-watch television content, viewing an average of five episodes at a time.

- 90% of US consumers say they multitask while watching TV.

- Nearly three quarters of Millennials age 19-32 say they are more influenced in their buying decisions by social media recommendations than TV ads.

- Social media sites have surpassed television as the most popular source of news for Millennials....

rodrick rajive lal's insight:
Media consumption habits are changing and fewer people watch TV these days. As a corallary to this, it is becoming clear that social media is gaining popularity over TV. Consumers are more likely to be influenced by advertisements they come across on online socia media than advertisements that appear on TV. Social media sites are overtaking TV as a source of information, and entertainment.

AAt CreativeLive, I'm constantly seeking out new business leaders to introduce to our audience. For me, this translates into a high volume of cold emails to people who are extremely busy.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve perfected my email approach and have had the privilege of opening up doors with people like Rand Fishkin, Tim Ferriss, Brian Dean, and more.

However, it didn't happen overnight. In fact, it wasn't until I had my own active blog and community of people reaching out to ask for help that I realized how poorly some of my emails must have come across. After hundreds of emails and countless hours of real-world practice, here are my top ten tips for emailing -- and getting a reply from -- really busy people. ...

In times when we are deluged by thousands of e mails, most of them junk mails, how do you really write an e mail that really stands out? This article provides some very pertinent tips that will surely make your mails stand out!  While most of us are adept in shooting thousands of mails on the spur of the moment, few of us spend time on thinking about the subject. In many cases, having an authoritative voice is beyond us as we adopt an almost wheedling tone. How often do we attempt make the receiver of our mails like us without appearing to be rather arrogant,? Sometimes our mails can be as impersonal as though we were addressing a rock.  One of essential elements that make our e mails stand out is a voice. Excess of formality will surely make our mails seem rather dull and  mechanical.

Where A Sale Begins | The Story of Telling

Where A Sale Begins | The Story of Telling | Writing about Life in the digital age | Scoop.it

The sale of the first GoPro camera didn’t begin when the customer walked through the retailer’s door. It didn’t even begin with the huddle of engineers in the tiny innovation department at the factory. The first sale began in the lineup, as the surfers waited to catch a wave.

A marketer’s story typically starts with her idea—with the thing she has to sell. But if you look at any business that has taken off, you will notice that there is a step before the creation of a remarkable product, which lies at the intersection of what the potential customer really wants and what the market doesn’t offer.

Sales and marketing are less about persuasion and more about understanding. The trick is to know who is in your lineup and what they care about. It’s far easier to succeed at making things people want, than it is to make people want things....

Via Jeff Domansky
rodrick rajive lal's insight:

It goes without saying that it is the story that sells, perhaps more than the product itself. Can we say that the wrapping matters more than the product? I guess till some time at least, till the product becomes established as the best, the wrapping and packaging does matter. But then, the story as a stratergy is important for educators too. Instead of presenting dry facts, figures and data about your researth paper, and thus making it so dry and drab, write the story of your research so that more people become interested in it! Story-telling continues to be an important factor when it comes to teaching a lesson in a class room, or marketing a product out there in the business world. Ultimately they are both the same, a teacher sells ideas in the classroom, while a marketing specialist sells a product. Both would do well to resort to story telling!

Jeff Domansky's curator insight, January 14, 2015 9:54 AM
