“Tired of fighting that fight”: School districts’ uphill battle to get good deals on ed tech | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"When administrators in Ohio’s Mentor Public Schools were buying MacBooks during the 2015-16 school year, the local Best Buy was offering a lower price than Apple, even after the company’s standard discount for school districts. Superintendent Matt Miller pushed for a better deal, but Apple said it would not budge from its price list. The company prohibits most third parties from selling new devices to school districts, so Miller couldn’t place a bulk order with Best Buy as a district official."

Enough With the Screen Time Scare! How to Be Sensible About Children’s Device Use | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"When the American Academy of Pediatrics released its most recent set ofguidelines for children’s media use, much of the list reflected the organization’s long-standing recommendations of limiting digital play time for toddlers to maintain a “healthy media diet.” However, one change particularly stood out: The academy no longer suggests that children under two years old avoid screen time entirely. Exceptions, the group stated, could be made for video chatting services like Facetime or Skype."

10 reasons why I pick Chromebooks for 1:1

10 reasons why I pick Chromebooks for 1:1 | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it
iPads, laptops, Nexus tablets and other devices have their strengths. But if pressed for one device for my classroom, I pick Chromebooks. Here's why.
EDTECH@UTRGV's insight:

Aside from the price, many of the justifications are moot. For example, who needs a HDMI port when video output can be streamed using an Apple TV? USB access is nice but not necessary with cloud-based storage.

Una de las partes más importantes de las nuevas tecnologías es saber implementarlas en clase. Las técnicas quizá todavía no están claras, pero con este artículo se muestran algunas claves, como la consistencia en el método escogido o alentar que los alumnos compartan dispositivos.
Liam Heads's curator insight, June 17, 2019 8:00 AM
This article is very helpful and informative in the setup up and success of a digital classroom. A point i like about it is that it explains that all teachers are different and that you can be flexible about what you teach. It outlines the importance of keeping up with the times and getting your classroom digital. I found this very helpful as i transition into teaching and believe it would benefit a lot of classmates and all pre-service teachers. The bit i liked the most is how it explained the content and technology not being separate but being merged in as many ways possible. I had never thought of it like this. Great article!!
