During graduate school we are often reminded to keep learners in mind. Although it may sound simple I always had to remind myself as I was creating lessons. Creating lessons and testing them out with actual learners is beneficial to see if it is actually going to work or not. It also allows the creator to fix problems in the early stages before the final product. Asking for feedback is also beneficial so that the feedback can help improve the plan as well as see it through the eyes of the learner.

Failing a class never feels good for a student. In a traditional classroom students have an opportunity to discuss their progress and obtain immediate feedback from their instructor. While they may or may not choose to try to work with their instructor, they know that on the scheduled class days an instructor is present and available.
