Study highlights limitations of Ohio's virtual school

Study highlights limitations of Ohio's virtual school | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"A new study by New York University Professor June Ahn, published by the Fordham Institute, highlights the limits of Ohio’s statewide virtual school, arguing it cannot serve as an alternative to traditional schooling."

OneydaAyala's curator insight, October 30, 2016 7:25 PM
In this article a study by the New York  University was discussed. The focus of this study was the virtual classes offered to college students in the state of Ohio and how these virtual classes do not meet the achievements obtained by traditional schooling. The view of this article opposes that of the one I previously scooped because it calls for more traditional schooling. In the case of Ohio's virtual school system, the system gets paid on enrollment not on participation or achievement of students. Other states such as New Hampshire pay their system based on passing rates. Overall, the research concluded that virtual schools cannot replace traditional schooling. They point out the fact that those who partake in virtual classes were not able to succeed in traditional schools and a virtual environment has not helped to improve much.
