The secret to edtech adoption? Make it easy

The secret to edtech adoption? Make it easy | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it
Today’s traditional college students come from the generation of digital natives, meaning they are generally incredibly fast learners when it comes to new technologies. However, that also means they have discerning technological tastes, especially when it comes to user experiences. You can outfit your student body with all of the tech tools in the world, but if they feel the user experience is unintuitive or inefficient, even the always-plugged-in generation may choose to stick to pen and paper. (Or, perhaps more likely, use a patchwork of personal devices with familiar interfaces.)

Only 28% of Districts Have Enough Bandwidth to Use Digital Learning Every Day

"As America’s classrooms become increasingly connected, the nation inches ever closer to reaching a major milestone: 100 percent of schools with high-speed internet access, defined as at least 100 kbps (or 100 thousand bits per second) per student. But what was once the gold standard for high speed is now barely enough to keep pace with modern learning environments, according to Evan Marwell, CEO of the nonprofit EducationSuperHighway, which released its annual State of the States report Tuesday."

EDTECH@UTRGV's insight:

When planning 1:1 and BYOD initiatives schools and districts need to examine infrastructure to determine if it can meet future demand.

However, we haven’t necessarily offered any tips for successfully using apps for teaching. Finding, downloading, and having students use apps for learning is one thing. Teaching with apps effectively and making use of the data they track is another task entirely."

Tech can help young students learn to not fear mistakes

"Technology adoption in high school and middle schools is fairly standard — most upper grades require students to file work online, necessitating their use of computers, tablets and at the least, smartphones. At the elementary school level, tablets are preferred — with 53% of students in grades K-2 using these devices, as compared to 15% of the same grades using laptops, according to Deloitte’s 2016 Digital Education Survey."

EDTECH@UTRGV's insight:

I have often said that we need to create learning environments that allow students to take risks without fear of failure.
