Smash Cards is a new service offering augmented reality flashcards. Smash Cards is still in a closed beta, but when I learned about it from Scott McLeod I knew I had to pass it along. The purpose of Smash Cards is to add value to the flashcard experience. Here's how it works; a student holds a flashcard up to a webcam and images matching the words on the flashcard. The goal is to provide students with a visual reference to aid in recall. Watch the video below to see Smash Cards in action.

Wednesday, April 7, 2010 In January, we published data on trends in the social media space related to user login preferences across 170,000 websites using JanRain RPX for authentication. The data showed clear preference differences based on industry vertical (media vs. technology). Today, we shared an update of that data with Mashable and on this blog, with the added inclusion of the retail vertical and a quick look at social publishing trends. This is a really informative website that explains to readers what project based learning is. It reiterates the concepts that we have gone over thus far in EDCI397 in a simple and easy way. I especially like that there are separate pages to browse through on the right side of the page. The link, "Why PBL?" struck me. It explains that now, more than ever, students find school to be boring and pointless. We have to change this! Students are the future and we have to make sure that they play an active and engaging role in their worlds. These are definitely concepts that I will implement in my classroom.
This website describes what project-based learning is and reiterates the information I learned in EDCI397. It allowed me to get a better understanding of how useful project-based learning can be in a classroom and I definitely plan on using the concepts in my future classroom!
Here is a quick breakdown of what PBL involves.
